Elements of Ukrainian Church Architecture

Ukrainian churches in Canada are very diverse. To appreciate the building, one must pause to consider the theological and functional purposes of Eastern Rite ecclesiastical architecture. From the theological and functional purposes springs a wealth of aesthetic and spiritual beauty that is the culmination of centuries of tradition. In particular, there are many interesting types of embellishment in Western Ukrainian ecclesiastical architecture that originally arose from functionality. Many traditions originating in Western Ukraine can be seen in Canadian churches.
